Blowing Rocks Preserve is an eco-reserve situated on Jupiter Island in Hobe Sound, Martin County, Florida, USA. It is managed through The Nature Conservancy. It is the largest Anastasia limestone outcrop on the east coast of the state. The waves that break off release plumes of water from erosion holes. The spray can rise to as high as 50 feet. This remarkable spectacle was the reason for the limestone outcrop’s name. The limestone outcropping also contains coquina shells and crustaceans and sand. The preserve also includes several ecotones along the coast, such as mangrove wetlands, maritime hammocks as well as beach dunes. The most common native species are Gumbo limbo as well as Sabal palms. Invasive exotic plants are removed to conserve native plants. The preserve features an education center a native plant nursery, a boardwalk on the oceanside pathway as well as a butterfly garden. The Hawley Education Center has changed natural history and art exhibitions, as well as environmental education workshops and classes.
